The Chicago Journal once published this exchange with a visitor who asked: "When will the army move?" President Lincoln responded: "Ask General Grant." Show More...The visitor replied: "General Grant will not tell me." Responded the President: "Neither will he tell me."
What marked Grant for promotion by the President was the surrender and capture on July 4, 1863, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, the last remaining Confederate citadel on the Mississippi River. From the Battle of Vicksburg to the end of the war, Grant was Lincoln's man. President Lincoln's confidence in General Grant was evidenced by his failure to demand Grant's plans. The General's responsibilities were overwhelming as were the President's. Acting decisively yet ruffling few feathers in Washington, Grant helped win The Civil War by following his military instinct, his training, and the President. General Grant and President Lincoln were both pragmatists - willing to do whatever was necessary to win the war.
Ulysses S. Grant, portrayed by living historian Ken Serfass, will lecture on his unique friendship with President Lincoln. This friendship is permanently stamped in the rich history of our country.
Portraying Ulysses S. Grant, Ken Serfass likes to use one of the president's famous lines, "I know two songs, one's 'Yankee Doodle Dandy,' and the other isn't." Serfass has studied Grant's life for the past 45 years. Today Ken travels the country lecturing on various topics regarding Grant's life and times. In celebration of President's Day 2019, Ken Serfass will be lecturing at the Free Library of Northampton Township, Richboro PA on Wednesday February 20th from 7-8:30 PM.. ...Show Less

If you're feline the love, Tabby's Place has a Valentine sweeter than two giant chocolate hearts for you.
For the entire month of February, the cat Show More...sanctuary is offering two-for-one adoptions. You can add two feline Valentines to your family for $135, the usual fee for just one cat.
Why consider a purring pair rather than a bachelor kitty? Cats thrive in pairs, providing each other with exercise, mental stimulation, socialization and comfort...and providing you with double the love. Cats with feline companions may be better socialized; less prone to obesity, boredom, separation anxiety and depression; better behaved; happier and more confident.
Families with two cats are lavished with twice the fun, laughter, and unconditional love. That's a gift that lasts long after Valentine's Day flowers. And this February, it's available at a price that will make you purr.
Tabby's Place has over 100 enchanting cats available for adoption, from zany kittens like Rambo and Tiger to snuggly seniors like Jenny and Faye. The Tabby's Place staff will help you pick the perfect pair for your family.
For more information, please contact Tabby's Place Director of Operations Danielle Rice at or 908-237-5300 ext 450. Tabby's Place is open from 12-5pm, seven days a week, and located at 1100 US Highway 202 in Ringoes, NJ, 08551.

Super During this Full Snow Moon Reiki Journey, let's come together to go within and feel what the previous super blood moon lunar eclipse and recent Show moon brought to us to experience and release with love anything that does not serve us. This shedding of patterns, relationships, situations will help us to focus on the new opportunities and perspectives that are on their way
We'll start with deep breaths and tuning in, and I'll begin sharing reiki with the group. Then I'll come around to share reiki with each person, and we'll end with a moment of gratitude followed by discussion. During this Reiki Journey, I will be inviting scent, breath, sound, touch and energy to envelope and connect us to all beings and to our amazing earth, creating a comforting space to experience, release or integrate whatever is needed... surrounded by peace, love, healing and serenity
Suggested donation: $20
Please feel free to bring yoga mats, blankets, pillows, eye masks to use for lying on the floor during the reiki journey, or you can sit in one of AWAKEN's comfortable chairs
Reiki Journeys are led by Karin of Peacelovehealing Reiki, Stockton NJ. Karin has come to understand unconditional love and compassion are the core of our souls, and is what links us to everyone and everything. And she shares that connection to bring peace, love, healing and serenity to animals and people. Karin combines traditional Japanese Reiki with earth-connected customs, Kundalini yoga practices, and sound vibration to create a deeply relaxing and peaceful space during your time together. Frank Hyder, who splits his time between Philadelphia and Miami, has become known for working across a variety of media. His paintings and sculpture have Show More...been widely exhibited in venues such as the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art's Museum of American Art, the Carnegie Museum in California, the La Salle Museum of Art in Philadelphia, and the National Museum of Catholic Art and History in New York among others. Hyder has also created several public art works, including three murals through the City of Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program: Hanging Garden of I-95, Honey's Garden, and Bell's Pond.
Hyder's fascination with the public sphere has manifested in a multimedia experience titled The Janis Project. Begun in 2015 and still continuing today, Hyder has created over a dozen large-scale, double-faced inflatable sculptures of heads. Hyder states of The Janis Project that each head, "which at once references Moai of Easter Island, Olmec heads and, the ancient Roman god of new endeavors, at the same time has its roots in street art and inflatable toys...Janis carries a message of equality and good will and dares to step out of the normal world of Art museums or Art Galleries to be among us. Made of resilient nylon and paint, Janis has found a place to make us all consider issues with a smile that often divide us."

A masterpiece often begins with a humble sketch. Sketching is a crucial process for creative people, and though the term "sketch" instantly brings to Show More...mind fine art, the processes of drafting and planning expands beyond the field of art. You're invited to take a look inside the planning process through the quick sketches people make. Rarely exhibited sketches from local artists including Joseph Cantieni, Emil Gelhaar and, J. Carroll Tobias will accompany completed works on display. See embroidery plans from students at the Ladies' Seminary, City planning documents, building blueprints, and more! Don't miss out on this exhibition of sketchbooks on loan from members of the Lehigh Art Alliance and Bethlehem Palette Club! Come explore how great creations began with a single stroke of the pencil! The Art of Seating: Two Hundred Years of American Design organized by The Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville, Florida, presents a survey of exceptional Show More...American chair design from the early 19th century to the present day. The chair is experienced not only as a functional item, but as sculptural in view-the chair as art. Each of the more than 40 chairs in the exhibition was chosen for its beauty and historical context with important social, economic, political and cultural influences. Selections from the Jacobsen Collection of American Art are joined by contemporary designs offering a stylistic journey in furniture with showstoppers by John Henry Belter, George Hunzinger, Herter Brothers, Stickley Brothers, Frank Lloyd Wright, Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, Isamu Noguchi, and Frank Gehry, among others.
The Art of Seating provides audiences with a unique opportunity to see chair types that usually reside in private homes, withheld from public display. The American Chair Collection, the center of this exhibition, is an amazing and comprehensive private collection of iconic and historic chairs reaching back from the mid-1800s to pieces from today's studio movement. The exhibition provides an opportunity to see readily recognizable pieces alongside those rarely seen by the public.. ...Show Less

ROI, Real-time Or Instead- works by Mark Price
February 1st- 28th
Mark Price's silkscreen printed collage exhibition ROI, Real-time Or Instead features Show and recent silkscreen printed collage works from artist Mark Price.
Engaged with the silkscreen printing collage processes over the past ten years Price utilizes a self produced archive of printed imagery including optical patterns, found graphics, and gradient color fields that collage into rich and frenetic two dimensional compositions.
The works explore where our psychological and information architecture become one. The resulting compositions operate as high-resolution experiences that attempt to map out a mediation of internalized and externalized information flows. The compositions address the possibility of a static image of today that encompasses our multi-modal experience with an ever expanding built environment.
Mark Price is a graphic artist who uses the silkscreen printing process to produce 2-D and 3-D visual works.
Working with gallery director Christina Ray he has mounted three New York solo exhibitions including 'The New Real Fantasy Now' 2009, 'Designer Endgame Strategies' 2010, and 'Hyper 20XX' 2012.
Additionally his work has been featured in group exhibitions at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia. In 2009 his work was selected by curator Aaron Betsky for inclusion in the internationally recognized Confines exhibition at the Institut Valencia d'Art Modern.
